YOUTH MINISTRY

Invitation

Christ the King Catholic Youth Ministry welcomes young men and women grades 6 through 12 who wish to deepen their understanding of the Catholic Faith through catechesis, social interaction, prayer, community and Christian service.

YOUTH ANNOUNCEMENTS

All youth in grades 6-12 are invited to participate in our Youth Gatherings and Events.  Call Patti Smith for more information

·                Sunday, 10/05 - Youth Sunday; Call Patti for assignments.  No Gathering 

·                 Sunday, 10/12 - Youth Gathering - 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.  Games!  ood!  Fun!  We'll begin planning the Halloween Party.

·                Sunday, 10/19 - Youth Gathering - 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. 

·                Sunday, 10/27 - Youth sponsored Halloween Party for the Parish!   4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. 

 

 

WEEKEND RETREATS

InnerLife Retreat for Young Men in High School - If you are a junior or senior in high school and want to learn how to go deeper in your relationship with Christ, come to the InnerLife weekend.  The retreat will be held at Our Lady of Angels Monastery in Crozet, VA - located just west of Charlottesville, on 10/24/08 (5:30 p.m.)  - 10/25/08 (7:00 p.m.). Follow Me Retreat for Young Adult Men - 11/21/08 - 11/23/08.  Are you looking for some direction from God?  This retreat will be held at the beautiful Roslyn Retreat Center in Richmond.  It is open to men ages 18-39 years old.  A  team of priests will lead reflections on how we can hear God's call in our lives through scripture, prayer, sacraments and service.  There is no cost for this retreat.  For more information contact Father Michael Renninger in the Office of Vocations at (804) 359-5661 or mrenninger@richmonddiocese.org.

 

 

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION SCHEDULE

Sunday, 09/28 * Busch Gardens weekend (No classes) 

Sunday, 10/05 * Classes begin after Mass.

 

ANNUAL CROP WALK

Scheduled for Sunday, 10/05.  The Crop Walk is a 5 mile walk through the town of Abingdon to support the efforts of Church World Services (CWS).  CWS works in over 80 countries (including the U.S.), to provide food, medical care, refugee assistance and education.  25% of the money raised will stay in our community, going to the Stone Soup Food Pantry, which serves approximately 900 families each month.  Anyone wishing to walk or to sponsor a walker is asked to see or call Kate Jacob (276) 628-2028. 

 

LITURGY STUDY DAY

The Living Word Proclaimed on October 25, from 9:30 - 4:30 at Christ the King.  The featured sessions include:

*Reading the Bible,

*Interactive Midrash,

*Storytelling Skills and Strategies, and

*Bringing the Word to Life

This day is intended for Ministers of the Word, including lectors, cantors, deacons, presiders, RCIA, Children's Liturgy and Bible Study leaders.  For more information call Melanie Coddington at (276) 619-0035 (See bulletin board for flyer).

 

REGION  TEN  TRIP  IS  ON!

Youth from Region Ten will be going to Greensburg, PA, June 21-27.  The cost is approximately $300.00 per participant for Catholic Heart Workcamp.  A $75.00 deposit is due by October 1, with the balance due in March.
